The first professional development offering is titled Deaf Education 101, and provides a broad overview of how to serve Deaf and hard of hearing students of all ages, hearing levels, and language levels. It covers:

  • An overview of Deaf Education and its major roles
  • Common misconceptions about Deaf Education and deaf and hard of hearing students
  •  Supporting your deaf and hard of hearing students' linguistic and communication levels
  • Language and communication pathways for deaf and hard of hearing students
  • Working with amplification such as hearing aids and cochlear implants
  • How to appropriately interact with deaf and hard of hearing students (and staff!)
  • Common and recommended accommodations for deaf and hard of hearing students, and how to implement them in an IEP

For more information on how to set up this training for you or your staff members, contact Dr. Natalie Delgado at ndelgado@lsdvi.org. A webinar sharing this presentation will be announced at a later date.
