LSD Graduate to Speak at 2012 Gallaudet Commencement
Joy Fraychineaud, a 2008 LSD graduate, has been asked to speak at Gallaudet University's 2012 Commencement on Friday, May 11, 2012. Joy will be speaking on behalf of the undergraduate Class of 2012, sharing personal messages about her life and of what Gallaudet has meant to her.
Joy graduated from LSD in 2008 as Valedictorian. While at LSD, Joy not only excelled in the classroom, but was also an outstanding student athlete. She entered Gallaudet University in the fall of 2008. During her freshman year she was named a Fantastic First Year student. A physical education major, Joy has been on the Dean's List every semester and is graduating with the degree of Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude. She has received several awards for academic excellence and leadership, including the Dorothy Hamberg Memorial Leadership Award, the National Association for Sport and Physical Education Major of the Year Award, and the Phi Kappa Zeta Sorority Catherine Bronson Higgins Memorial Scholarship. Joy was inducted into the Phi Alpha Pi Honor Society during her junior year.
Joy has been a physical education student teacher assistant at both the Kendall Demonstration Elementary School (KDES) and the Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD). She currently serves as an assistnat coach for MSSD's track and field team. Joy has been involved with many volunteer and service activities, including tutoring, Academic Bowl, Get Moving, Gallaudet!, and currently volunteers with Common Good City Farm.
Joy's internships and volunteer activities have developed her passion for physical education and health and wellness programs for children and youth. She plans to pursue two master's degrees, in physical education and deaf education. She hopes to become a teacher, and to encourage students and adults to develop their quality of life with physical activities and a healthy lifestyle.
We are very proud of Joy and her many accomplishments and wish her the very best in all future endeavors!
Gallaudet's Commencement Procession and Ceremony will be broadcast live on the internet, beginning at 1:15 pm on Friday, May 11. (www.gallaudet.edu)
