Residential Life
When the bell rings at the end of the school day, our students go in many different directions as the very busy after-school component of LSD Student Life begins. Many students ride school buses home. Some go home to their families after practicing sports. Some students go to their LSD home at the end of their school day, where they are welcomed and cared for by our Student Life staff.
When the bell rings in the afternoon, it's time for students to be kids, or friends, or athletes, teammates or members of a club. Students who live in our residence halls have nightly study periods and a variety of enrichment activities. Many students, especially in the Elementary grades, are receiving after-school tutoring to help them achieve their academic potential.
If a child doesn't feel well, the nurses at our Student Health Center are there to help. If a student needs spending money, the School Bank disburses funds from the student's account. If a child needs to call home, there are videophones available in the dorms and Student Life staff who facilitate the calls.
Each evening, some of the best cooks in town (a/k/a LSD Food Service staff) treat students to a delicious supper, and then it's time for evening activities in the dormitories, the Student Center, the athletics facilities, special events or for off-campus outings. No matter what the activity, it is spent in a "full access" communication environment, where LSD students continually practice receptive and expressive communication skills.
At LSD, a student's day is barely half over when the bell rings in the afternoon! For more information about our Residential program, please contact Laurie Self, Interim Administrator of Student Life: lself@lalsd.org.
