"SMART" School:
At LSD, we are very fortunate to have SMARTBoard
© interactive whiteboard technology throughout our campus. SMARTBoards are used in every academic classroom as well as in dormitory classroom/workshop areas, meeting rooms and computer labs.

We are grateful to our special benefactor, Commercial Property Development Corporation (CPDC). Through the Baton Rouge Area Foundation grant program, CPDC has provided much of the funding for our SMARTBoards.

For several years now, every LSD academic classroom has met the criteria qualifying it to be designated a "Model Classroom." This requires a minimal ratio of 5:1 student-to-Internet-connected computers, a networked teacher computer, a networked printer, appropriate software and a large screen display and/or projection device in the room. With the addition of a SMARTBoard, each LSD classroom now exceeds the "Model Classroom" designation.

Teacher Laptops:
Several years ago, grant funding made it possible for us to equip each classroom with a "Teacher's PET." PET is a nickname we use for our PresEntaTion stations. The PET consists of a networked multimedia computer, document camera and a projector.
LSD has also been able to provide laptop computers for teachers. The PETs were set up with docking stations (port replicators) which are connected to the monitor, mouse and all of the various cables and connections. The laptop pops right into the dock, so there is no need to waste time hooking up cords and cables. This configuration makes it easy for teachers to bring their laptops to meetings or home to work on lessons or to collaborate with others.

Access to Technology:
In each school area there are computer labs and portable laptop labs for student use. Wireless Internet access is available in all academic areas on campus. The school provides a wide variety of software and Internet resources such as Unitedstreaming, Accelerated Reader, STAR Reader, READ 180, Accelerated Math and STAR Math, to name just a few. Our faculty and staff have access to technology-related professional development and software/hardware support from our Information Systems Department, from their peers and through participation in conferences and workshops.
