Early Childhood

Early Childhood Program (Ages 3-5)

Welcome to LSD’s Early Childhood Program!

Our pre-school program serves students who receive services in special education from the age of 3 to 5. We are a full-day program, providing language access through ASL for communication and English for reading, writing and speaking for all students.  We use the Louisiana’s Early Childhood Standards, preparing students in the following standards:

Our pre-school classes use the Louisiana approved Assessment, Evaluation, and Programming System for Infants and Children (AEPS) assessment. AEPS is a criterion-referenced, curriculum-based assessment, evaluation, and programming tool. This assessment is used by Louisiana to meet federal requirements for reporting the progress of Pre-K children ages 3-5 who receive Special Education services.  AEPS tracks child's performance across six comprehensive developmental areas: Fine Motor, Gross Motor, Adaptive, Cognitive, Social-Communication, and Social.  These scores are reported for IEP progress monitoring and to communicate with parents how well their child is progressing in school.

Our pre-school students also enjoy ASL classes, snack time, nap time and play on the brand new Ages 3-5 playground during their recess and PE times.  If you have any questions about our Early Childhood Program, please feel free to contact Ryan Gollner, Assistant Principal.
